BIOGRAPHY
Gracie Carney is highly sought after as a contemporary musician. One of her first experiences with new music was in 2015 when she led the world premiere of Marcos Balter’s Codex Seraphinius, "Imagined Worlds" as concertmaster at age 17. Since 2018, she has played in and lead IU’s New Music Ensemble where she was also featured as a soloist in 2019 with David Ludwig’s violin concerto, Paganiniana. Earlier that year, Ms. Carney premiered Wake Up Gracie, a violin concerto written for her by Miggy Torres. She was invited as a performer fellow to the Contemporary Performance Institute summer of 2022.
Gracie Carney is currently pursuing a Masters of Music at McGill University's Schulich School of Music with Violaine Melancon. Prior to this, Gracie received a performance Diploma at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of music where she also graduated with a Bachelor of Music as the Leonard Bernstein Fellow. She has studied violin under the tutelage of Mauricio Fuks and Grigory Kalinovsky as well as baroque violin with Stanley Ritchie.
Gracie's love for collaboration dates back to 2016, where her string trio was awarded the prestigious Reinecke Youth Chamber Music Fellowship. Later, as a student of the Pacifica Quartet, Ms. Carney’s string quartet later went on to win the Music in the Vineyards Competition in 2019 and performed alongside the Dover Quartet and the Pacifica Quartet in Napa Valley, California as the quartet in residence.
As a baroque violinist, Ms. Carney has performed with the world-renowned Ensemble Caprice in Montréal, Canada (dir. Matthias Maute), as well as appearing with the Indiana University Baroque Orchestra and the McGill University Baroque Orchestra with whom she did the modern premier of Regina Strinasacchi's Violin Concerto. She plays on a Giovanni Paolo Maggini violin on generous loan by Stanley Ritchie.
